The word "soothe" is an archaic word that translate to truth or reality, meaning those with the sight had the ability to see future events and give those without the sight a true perspective.
Soothsayers read cards, palms, crystal balls, and even the stars as a way to foretell future events although some don't have a need for these objects to access their abilities.
